Defect Summary
Equipment description: heavy duty brake fluid, 12 ounce bottles packaged by warren oil company between july 13 and july 14, 1999. in efforts to improve the color of the brake fluid, a lower amount of amine was used in the inhibitor package, which then resulted in a lower ph. these units of brake fluid does not comply with the requirements of federal motor vehicle safety standard no. 116, "motor vehicle brake fluids."
Safety Consequence
If the brake fluid ph balance is lower than required by federal regulations, corrosion could occur resulting in poor braking ability.
Corrective Action
The manufacturer will notify all its purchasers to remove any unsold bottles of the affected brake fluid and return it to warren oil company for free replacement fluid.
