Defect Summary

Equipment description: rear "clear" tail lamps, red/white clear tail lamps, and obx gen2 alterra tail lamp assemblies manufactured for installation on certain passenger vehicles which were not manufactured with a reflective material as required under federal motor vehicle safety standard no. 108, "lamps, reflective devices, and associated equipment."

Safety Consequence

Without the reflective material, the vehicle may not be clearly visible to other motorists which could result in a vehicle crash.

Corrective Action

Outback products will notiy distributors/owners to return the noncompliant lamps for a free replacement. owner notification is expected to begin april 2001. owners who take their vehicles to an authorized dealer on an agreed upon service date and do not receive the free remedy within a reasonable time should contact outback 650-873-8800.
