Defect Summary

Equipment description: replacement and reproduction jacks for the restoration and maintenance of vintage british cars. the inner threaded shaft is swaged (mushroomed out by a drop punch) which limits the travel of the shaft in its threads and housing. on some jacks, insufficient fource was used to swage the shaft end allowing the shaft to completely unscrew from the housing.

Safety Consequence

The jack is intended for tire changing only, no more that four or five inches of lift. if the jack is used to raise the car for repairs and/or extend beyond the normal working range, the inner thread shaft could unscrew completely from its outer thread housing and topple. if this were to happen, anyone near or under the vehicle could be injured or killed.

Corrective Action

Moss motors will notify its customers and inspect and modify or replace any defective jacks free of charge. owner notification began january 21, 2002. owners who do not receive the free remedy within a reasonable time should contact moss motors at 805-681-3400.
