Defect Summary
Equipment description: aftermarket replacement seat belt assemblies installed in the volvo, f7 model, class 7 and 8 vehicles between september 1981 and march 1986. the affected belts can be identified by part number 1088593 or v1088593. these seat belt assemblies do not meet the requirements of federal motor vehicle safety standard 210, "seat belt assembly anchorages."
Safety Consequence
The seat belt anchorage may not be sufficient to retain the wearer, which may lead to personal injury or death in the event of a vehicle crash.
Corrective Action
Dealers will install a compliant, replacement seat belt assembly free of charge. owner notification began october 8, 2001. owners who take their vehicles to an authorized dealer on an agreed upon service date and do not receive the free remedy within a reasonable time should contact volvo trucks at 1-800-528-6586.
