Defect Summary

Tire description: desert dog light truck tires size lt245/75r16 e with serial number xl 11a288 manufactured between december 1998 and march 2000. due to a variability in component adhesion during production, the tires can develop chunking, and partial tread separations in use.

Safety Consequence

This condition could result in a loss of air, creating a potential for a loss of vehicle control, and possibly a vehicle crash.

Corrective Action

Pirelli will notify its distributors and customers to return the affected tires to the nearest pirelli dealer for a free replacement. owner notification began july 3, 2001. owners who take their vehicles to an authorized dealer on an agreed upon service date and do not receive the free remedy within a reasonable time should contact pirelli consumer affairs at 800-327-2442.
