Defect Summary

Vehicle description: tank trailers. These trailers fail to comply with the requirements of fmvss no. 223, "rear impact guards." the rear guards have been found to sustain 4.6 percent less load than prescribed in the applicable regulations.

Safety Consequence

This does not meet the standard requirements.

Corrective Action

The lower rear area of the subject bumpers will be reinforced to withstand the set regulatory load. owner notification began august 30, 2001. owners who take their vehicles to an authorized dealer on an agreed upon service date and do not receive the free remedy within a reasonable time should contact brenner at 1-800-558-9750.
