Defect Summary

Certain passenger vehicles equipped with automatic transaxles were assembled with an inadequate weld at the brake pedal pad to brake pedal actuator arm assembly. during braking, the brake pedal pad could separate from the brake pedal actuator arm.

Safety Consequence

If this were to occur, the driver's foot could become dislodged from the pedal resulting in a loss of brake system application and a vehicle crash could occur.

Corrective Action

Dealers will inspect and if necessary replace the brake pedal assembly. owner notification began february 19, 2002. owners who take their vehicles to an authorized dealer on an agreed upon service date and do not receive the free remedy within a reasonable time should contact saturn at 1-800-553-6000, prompt #3.
