Defect Summary

Truck hub units (thu) manufactured by skf exclusively for use on arvinmeritor's ff98x series non-drive steer axles produced from august 1-15, 1998; april 16 to may 15, 1999; and from february 16-28, 2001. the thu bearings can wear prematurely.

Safety Consequence

Seizure of the bearings can cause wheel separation or wheel end fire.

Corrective Action

Skf has not yet provided the agency with a remedy and notification program.
