Defect Summary

Bendix sl4 stop light switches manufactured between january 1 and august 31, 2003. improper lubrication was applied to the piston mechanism.

Safety Consequence

This lack of proper lubrication can cause the switch to stick, resulting in the vehicle stop lamps staying illuminated or failing to extinguish promptly. if the stop lamps fail to preform as designed, a vehicle crash could be the result.

Corrective Action

Bendix will notify its customers and provide a free remedy. the recall september 21, 2004. owners who do not receive the free remedy within a reasonable time should contact bendix at 1-800-478-1793.
