Defect Summary
A variety of continental, toyo, general, and yokohama tires which the rubber compound used in the shoulder pad component of the tire is not the specified rubber compound as detailed in the tire specification.
Safety Consequence
The overall durability of the tire is reduced, which if driven unchecked, the tire could degrade, possibly resulting in a vehicle crash.
Corrective Action
Continental tire will notify its customers and replace the tires free of charge. the recall began on february 11, 2005. owners may contact either yokohama at 1-800-722-9888, continental at 1-800-726-7113, or toyo at 1-800-442-8696.
