Rear drive axle spindles/arvin-meritor
Defect Summary
On certain trucks equipped with arvinmeritor series 145 and 160 rear drive axles. some of the spindles were overheated during the heat treat process which could result in a fracture of the spindle.
Safety Consequence
If a spindle fractures while the vehicle is in motion, it may cause wheel separation, which could, without warning result in a vehicle crash.
Corrective Action
Dealers will inspect the spindle for suspect heat codes and replace the axle if necessary. the recall began on november 15, 2005. owners may contact mack trucks at 1-336-393-2233.
