Defect Summary
Elgin sweeper is recalling certain model year model 2010-2011 megawind sweepers with tier- iii john deere auxiliary engines manufactured from february 2010 through april 2011. under heavy operating conditions and high auxiliary engine speed, the fans may fail and the fan blades could separate from the base of the fan and the blades or debris from the blades could leave the fan housing.
Safety Consequence
Small pieces of fan debris could exit the vehicle in 2 openings in the exterior of the vehicle. a person performing a repair could be injured.
Corrective Action
Elgin sweeper will notify owners and install a new radiator fan on a belt-driven pulley and new mounting hardware. this service will be performed free of charge. the safety recall began on may 30, 2011. owners may contact elgin customer service department at 1-877-342-5374.
