Defect Summary

Lippert components, inc.(lippert), d.b.a extreme trailers, is recalling certain model year 2011-2012 boat trailers equipped with carlisle transport products brand wheels installed as original equipment. lippert also sold approximately 118 wheel and tire assemblies for aftermarket use on various recreational vehicles. these wheels were manufactured with machine dimensions for the application of a center cap and the application of steel lug inserts that were not controlled to the required specifications. as a result, the wheel may not be tightened to the proper torque during the mounting process.

Safety Consequence

If the wheels are not tightened to the proper torque, the wheels could loosen, leading to wheel separation, possibly resulting in a vehicle crash. a detached wheel also becomes a road hazard.

Corrective Action

Lippert will notify owners, and carlisle transport products dealers will repair or replace the affected wheels free of charge. the recall began during december 2012. owners may contact lippert components at 1-574-312-6113.
