Defect Summary
Strick trailers, llc (strick) is recalling certain model year 1998-2005 dry freight van trailers manufactured april 19, 1998, to january 17, 2005 and equipped with rear impact guards that use gussets 46829 and 46830. the rear impact guards may not be strong enough to prevent a vehicle from traveling under a trailer in the event of a crash. as such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of federal motor vehicle safety standard (fmvss) number 223, "rear impact guards."
Safety Consequence
If the trailer is rear ended by a automobile, the guard may fail to prevent the automobile from traveling under the trailer, increasing the risk of injury to the driver of the automobile.
Corrective Action
Strick will notify owners, and service centers will install reinforcements to the rear impact guards, free of charge. the recall began on january 13, 2016. owners may contact strick customer service at 1-704-436-2590.
