Coupler may fail if trailer loaded to maximum
Defect Summary
Stoughton trailers, llc (stoughton) is recalling certain model year 2015-2016 barrett p gooseneck trailers manufactured july 1, 2014, to december 31, 2015. the affected trailers have an upper coupler section with a gross trailer weight rating (gtwr) of 25,000lbs, however the trailer has an assigned gross vehicle weight rating (gvwr) of over 25,000lbs.
Safety Consequence
If the trailer is loaded past 25,000lbs, the upper coupler may fail causing separation of the trailer from the tow vehicle and increasing the risk of a crash.
Corrective Action
Stoughton will notify owners and depending on the trailer gvwr, dealers will either replace the upper coupler slide-in inner tube or the trailers will need to be returned to the manufacturer to have the upper coupler replaced. these repairs will be made free of charge. The recall began on march 11, 2016. owners may contact stoughton customer service at 1-608-873-2500.
