Turn signal malfunction/fmvss 108
Defect Summary
Daimler trucks north america, llc (dtna) is recalling certain 2023 western star 57x vehicles. the interior turn signals may flash too quickly and not align with the exterior turn signal flashing. interior turn signals that consistently flash too quickly may not change their flash rate to alert the driver to replace the bulbs. an exterior turn signal bulb that is burnt out will not illuminate. as such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of federal motor vehicle safety standard number 108, "lamps, reflective devices, and associated equipment."
Safety Consequence
A nonfunctioning exterior turn signal may not notify other drivers of a turning vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.
Corrective Action
Dealers will update the turn signal indicator software, free of charge. owner notification letters were mailed june 13, 2023. owners may contact dtna customer service at 1-800-547-0712. dtna's number for this recall is fl975.
