There is a possibility that the bolts securing the ring gear to the drum shaft may be defective. These bolts could break without prior warning, allowing the drum shaft to spin unrestrained, thus allowing the winch cable to unwind.
Corrective Action
Dealer will inspect and replace the ring gear bolts at no charge.
