Defect Summary

A number of factors could cause longitidunal and - or transverse cracks in the spindle end that could lead to spindle end failure and separation of wheels from vehicle.

Safety Consequence

Wheel separation could occur affecting vehicle control and stability as well as presenting a hazard to other highway users, bystanders, and property.

Corrective Action

Replace axles with axles manufactured with buttweld spindles, rather than original integral spindles.
