Defect Summary
Vehicle description: single rear-wheel and dual rear-wheel buses built on ford e-350 and e-450 "super duty" cutaway chassis. when applying force to a window, the window frame deflected, the latching mechanism failed, and the window opened before the glazing shattered and before reaching the required necessary force. this does not meet with the requirements of fmvss no. 217, "bus window retention and release."
Safety Consequence
Windows may not operate properly in the event of an emergency.
Corrective Action
Owners will be provided with repair parts and installation instructions. if an owner desires, collins will repair the vehicles for them.
